Volunteer at Open Door

With such a small paid staff at The Open Door, we rely heavily on volunteers to run our programs. We have opportunities with varying levels of commitment whether you like to work with kids, fold newsletters, or cook and serve meals; we’d love to have your help.

Current program opportunities include:

Friday Night Rec - Volunteers are needed from 6:00-8:00 p.m. for grades K-5 and from 8:00-10:00 p.m. for grades 6-12. Volunteers are needed to help run games, lead art projects, and assist in the computer room.

Afterschool Program - Volunteers are needed for our Monday-Thursday afterschool program. Volunteers are needed to help with homework and engage the youth in different activities. Whether you can commit to one day a week or several, we need your help!

Mentors - We are in need of both male and female mentors to help run our small group mentoring programs. Mentors must make a commitment of being available on a weekly basis.

These are just a few of the many opportunities available. If you would like more information about how to become a volunteer email or call the office at 412-921-6153.

The Open Door can also host work camps for groups from all over the country. We welcome both church youth groups and adult groups.

Because The Open Door is first and foremost a safe place for children, it is expected that volunteers who work directly with young people will have appropriate clearances regarding abuse and criminal records. The Open Door is willing to pay for clearances for committed volunteers and we have the appropriate forms in the office. For more information on how to receive those clearances on your own click the links below.
